1The standard we work to

We target WCAG 2.2 Level AA. Everything in clause 2 has been checked; clause 4 lists what has not been reached yet, with dates.

2What is in place

• Body text is at least 4.5:1 against its background everywhere on the site, and large text at least 3:1. The vermilion annotation colour is used for text only at sizes where it clears 3:1, and a darker variant is substituted at body size.
• Colour is never the only way information is given. The four constructions are told apart by drawn hatch pattern and by name, so the comparison works in greyscale and for any form of colour vision.
• Every interactive element is reachable and operable by keyboard, in a visible order, with a focus indicator that meets the AA contrast requirement.
• The page has one h1 and a heading structure that does not skip levels.
• Text reflows to a single column at 320px width and at 400% zoom without horizontal scrolling.
• Motion is limited, and everything that moves respects prefers-reduced-motion.
• All images carry alternative text. Decorative plates are marked as decorative so screen readers pass over them.
• Forms have visible labels, not placeholder-only labels, and errors are announced and described in words rather than by colour.
• The site works with browser text spacing overrides and with a user stylesheet.

3The two graphical features, and their equivalents

The magnifier over the join. On the home page, moving a pointer along the edge of a shoe enlarges a narrow band of the photograph. The keyboard equivalent is not an approximation of that gesture: focus the figure and use the left and right arrow keys to step between four fixed sample points along the edge, each of which simply displays the enlarged crop. The sample point is named in text above the crop, and the same four crops are listed as static images further down the section, so nothing is reachable only by interaction.

The four lifespan paths. The drawing shows one starting point branching into four paths of different length. Immediately beneath it, the same information is given as an ordinary table with a row per construction: what the join is, whether the sole comes apart, how many times as a range, and what finally ends the shoe. The table is always present. It is not collapsed, not behind a toggle, and not marked as an alternative for anyone in particular.

On a narrow screen the four constructions stay side by side as four columns that can be compared in one view. They are not turned into a carousel, because a carousel would remove the comparison, which is the whole point of the section.

4What is not done yet

• The magnifier crop is a raster image. A text description of what is visible in each of the four sample crops is being written; until it is published, the sample point's name and the accompanying prose describe what to look for. Target: within 60 days of the date at the top of this page.
• The site has not yet been through an independent audit by a third party. One is planned within six months of launch, and the report will be summarised here.
• Some legal pages are long. A per-clause contents list is planned so a screen-reader user can jump to a clause without traversing the whole document.

If you need a result in another form — a read described in plain text rather than as a card, for example — ask and we will send it. There is no charge for that and no plan requirement.
